This kit is quite a reasonable price for this manufacturer’s model. They may have been trying to break up with their rivals. At that time, new manufacturers were releasing various kits one after another after Dragon lost its focus on military plastic models.
The problem with the assembly is that when parts C3 and C4 are installed, the suspension arm is bent. When I put it together temporarily, it looked like there was such a danger. Even if I wind a track, it doesn’t touch the ground properly, so it’s the worst. I will only use the place to hold the idler wheel at the end and not use the rest.
I was amazed by the injection plastic color of this Meng Model King Tiger oxide red. As for the runners with different colors, I remember the white runner of Tamiya 8 ton half-track figure and the black runner of the 1/144 F-14 Revell.
How is the quality of the mold on the face? The injection head doesn’t seem to nice mold. There is no problem because he is looking at the other side with binoculars. It’s hard to paint his face if I built like this.
I was at a loss of how to proceed with camouflage painting this time. In the end, I use a black base, dark yellow, red-brown and dark green are blown with an airbrush. I don’t do much layering. I think the saturation is a little high, but I will fine-tune it later.
The Meng Model Kingtiger is completed. The Dragon Kingtiger Henschel turret that I made before had the fender and the spare caterpillar removed, so this time I made a vehicle with all the fenders and caterpillars keeping with the body.
Marking is the 334th Heavy Tank Battalion of the German Defence Force, a vehicle in Hungary in October 1944. The number prepared is 334, so it is the tank number 4 of the 3rd platoon of the 3rd company. I put the decal on the shiny base and then blow the matte clear, so it was good that silvering was suppressed even on the uneven surface.
After I finished making it, I thought that the Zimmerit Coating sheet has poor adhesion if it is just the glue of decal. Next time, add water-soluble wood glue dissolved in a little more water. I have a coating sheet for the Porsche turret, so I will try it if I have a chance.
The Meng Model Kingtiger is required to care about road wheels. But the price is much better than other recent kits, so I hope the Meng Model will sell them for a long time. It must be hard because many manufacturers will enter the market for popular tanks like Kingtiger.
I am interested in models of tanks, airplanes, ships, military figures, I build it little by little when I feel like it. I am also interested in the history of war. My starting is Tamiya’s Military Miniature series in the elementary school.
From elementary school through university students repeatedly suspend and restart my modeling, it’s about 25 years of this hobby’s history.
Born in February 1970, I live in Tokyo. From February 2007 I was quietly doing a site called “Miniature-Arcadia”. It is being transferred to this blog with the same name from December 2016. My update pace is uneven, but please come to see here occasionally.
